Early in the following year, 1989 H.O.G. was told of a customer appreciation
day at H.D. Dartmouth featuring 20% discounts and various in store specials
were being offered to our now forty-five members.
A letter was written to “lay back” at Canadian Biker Magazine
telling a bit about our East Coast group. This was when M.A.P. approached
us asking for a member to “sit on their board”. Mike Roach
and Norm Harrison volunteered.
Fred has been acting Director now for five months and the members are
asking for an election for the director’s position. Jim Costen
and Fred Stewart are the nominees for the position. Tiny (Jim) wins
the election by three votes and we have a new director. Secretary and
treasurers positions become combined for less paperwork and Fred is
now Secretary Treasurer for the group.
With spring in the air it is decided that this year we have two meetings
per month, the first Wednesday for business, the third Wednesday for
a ride.
One of the rides we were told we would make this year was to the “Dealer
show” being held in Halifax N.S.
A new executive position is being added to the group, the LADIES OF
HARLEY representative.
A communication link from the executive board to the members is put
in motion and Phil Campagna and Fred wrote our first group newsletter
that brought together lots of good people to attend the 11th annual
Bro Toy Run.
Our monthly rides are showing a lot of group participation but not
much organization. We need Road Captains… the request brings forth
four volunteers, Rob Crocker, Brian Wheatherby, Rick Frail, and Dennis
Gionet.
On August 28th 1989 the “Shop” shows the group support
by displaying the 1990 models c/w refreshments and information about
the new models.
The autumn season is quickly approaching and election time is here again.
The executive is doing such a fine job, that they are asked to “Please
remain in your seats”.
The group packs their bags and loads the scoots and it’s off
to P.E.I. for the Labour Day Rally. This was the “I survived”
t-shirt party, where lightning bolts, gale force winds and monsoon rains,
crashed tents, over turned tables and chairs, destroying our events,
award presentation and dance. People fled for the safety and shelter
of the hotel, the one-hundred yard dash seemed like an eternity. The
biker brotherhood shows itself once more when a double room became home
to as many as ten or twelve cold and wet friends. The hardest part of
the night was making it the “John” without any injuries.
With group participation C.C.N.S. showed their riding skills by bringing
home the Chapter Challenge Award from this event.
In Oct. we received the word that no more t-shirts, sweats, hats, etc
are to be printed without written consent from H.D. of Canada.
